4 expensive beliefs about health : The Power of Belief & How to Change Your Life Without Spending a Fortune –

Wallet with Money

In our modern world, it’s easy to believe that achieving happiness, health, and success requires spending money on products, programs, or services. We’re bombarded with advertisements telling us that to feel better, we need to buy the latest supplement, join the most expensive gym, or wear the trendiest clothes. But what if I told you that this mindset is not only expensive but also holding you back from the health and happiness you seek?

The truth is, our beliefs shape our reality. The things we believe about ourselves, our health, and the world around us influence the decisions we make, the way we act, and ultimately, the results we get. If you believe that happiness requires spending money, you’ll constantly feel like you need to buy your way to a better life. But what if you could adopt “cheap” beliefs—beliefs that don’t require you to spend a lot of money—and still achieve the same results?

Let’s explore how your beliefs about health, happiness, and success can be the key to transforming your life. And the best part? It doesn’t have to cost you a fortune. By examining the beliefs you hold, challenging the ones that no longer serve you, and replacing them with new, empowering “cheap”  beliefs, you can create a healthier, happier life without breaking the bank.

How Beliefs Shape Reality

Before we dive into specific beliefs, it’s important to understand how beliefs work. Beliefs are like lenses through which we view the world. They colour everything we see, hear, and experience. If you believe that achieving good health requires expensive treatments, you’ll notice and focus on all the products and services that seem to confirm that belief. But if you believe that simple, natural habits—like eating whole foods, getting enough sleep, and practicing mindfulness—can lead to great health, your reality will reflect that belief.

Think of it like this: if you walk around wearing sunglasses with tinted lenses, everything you see will be filtered through that tint. It doesn’t mean the world actually looks that way; it just means your perception is coloured by the lenses you’re wearing. In the same way, your beliefs colour your perception of what’s possible for your health and happiness.

The good news is beliefs aren’t permanent. You can take off those tinted glasses and put on a new pair anytime you choose. By changing your beliefs, you can change the way you experience the world—and that includes your health, your happiness, and your sense of wellbeing.

The Expensive Beliefs Holding You Back

One of the most common limiting beliefs people hold is the idea that they need to spend a lot of money to be happy or healthy. This belief is deeply ingrained in our culture, where we’re constantly told that buying things will make us feel better. From luxury skincare products to expensive weight-loss programs, we’re conditioned to believe that we need to spend money to achieve our goals.

But this belief is not only false—it’s also incredibly limiting. When you believe that health and happiness come with a high price tag, you put unnecessary pressure on yourself to “buy” your way to a better life. And if you don’t have the money to spend, you might start to feel discouraged, thinking that a healthy, happy life is out of reach for you.

Let’s look at some common “expensive” beliefs and how you can replace them with “cheap” beliefs that support your goals without draining your wallet.

Expensive Belief #1: “I need expensive supplements or weight-loss products to lose weight.”

This is a belief many people hold, especially when they’re bombarded with advertisements for products that promise quick fixes for weight loss. ( don’t feel bad, I was there too) Whether it’s a supplement, a meal plan, or a fancy piece of exercise equipment, it’s easy to believe that spending money will lead to results.

But the truth is, lasting weight loss comes from making consistent, healthy choices—choices that don’t have to cost a fortune. By focusing on a whole food diet—eating vegetables, plenty of  proteins and healthy fats—you can nourish your body without the need for expensive supplements or fad diets.

It’s like tending to a garden. You don’t need the most expensive soil or fertilizer to grow healthy plants; you just need sunlight, water, and care. Your body is the same. When you fuel it with nutritious, affordable foods, it will respond by becoming healthier and stronger over time.

Expensive Belief #2: “I need a gym membership or personal trainer to stay fit.”

Another common belief is that staying in shape requires spending money on a gym membership, personal trainer, or fitness classes. While these things can be helpful, they’re not necessary for achieving your fitness goals. Movement is free, and some of the most effective exercises—like walking, stretching, yoga, and bodyweight exercises—require little to no equipment.

Think of exercise like brushing your teeth. It’s a small, consistent habit that doesn’t require expensive tools, but it’s essential for maintaining your health. By adopting a mindset of regular, enjoyable movement, you can stay fit without the need for costly gym memberships or classes.

Expensive Belief #3: “I need expensive beauty products to look and feel my best.”

In today’s world, there’s a huge emphasis on appearance, and we’re often led to believe that expensive creams, serums, and treatments (OMG, they are so popular now)  are the key to looking youthful and radiant. But the reality is, your skin’s health is largely determined by how you care for your body from the inside out.

Hydration, nutrition, and sleep play a far more important role in your skin’s appearance than any product you can buy. By drinking plenty of water, eating a balanced diet rich in vitamins and antioxidants, and getting enough sleep, you can support your skin’s natural glow—without spending a fortune on expensive skincare products.

Imagine you’re taking care of a plant. The plant doesn’t need fancy chemicals to thrive; it needs sunlight, water, and a little attention. Your body is no different. When you give it the simple, natural care it needs, it will flourish.

Expensive Belief #4: “I need a therapist or life coach to improve my mental health.”

Mental health is an essential aspect of overall wellbeing, and while professional help can be invaluable, many people believe they can’t make progress without spending money on therapy or coaching. I’m a life coach myself and though I value my work very much, I know  there are many free or low-cost resources available that can help you improve your mental health.

Practices like journaling, meditation, and connecting with nature can be incredibly effective for managing stress and improving mental clarity. Additionally, community support groups, online forums, and even local meetups can provide valuable connections without a hefty price tag.

Expensive Belief #5: “I need expensive gadgets or apps to be productive.”

In a world where productivity apps and high-tech gadgets are everywhere, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and believe that you need to invest in the latest technology to be efficient. However, some of the simplest productivity strategies can be the most effective and cost nothing.

Setting clear goals, creating to-do lists, and prioritizing tasks can significantly improve your productivity without the need for expensive tools. Sometimes, the best way to increase your efficiency is to go back to basics, focus on your natural abilities, and embrace the simplicity of analog methods.

The Real Currency: Your Beliefs

If you’ve ever worried that you don’t have enough money to invest in your health or happiness, it’s time to shift your focus. The real currency in life is not money—it’s your belief system. What you believe about yourself, and your potential has a far greater impact on your life than the amount of money you have in your bank account.

Think of your beliefs as the foundation upon which your life is built. If your foundation is made up of expensive beliefs—like the belief that you need to spend money to achieve your goals—it will always feel like you’re living in a house of cards. But if you build your foundation on empowering, affordable beliefs, you’ll create a strong, stable structure that can withstand whatever life throws at you.

By doing a little “spring cleaning” in your belief system, you can identify the expensive, limiting beliefs that are holding you back and replace them with new, empowering ones that support your goals. The best part? These new beliefs won’t cost you a thing.

How to Replace Expensive Beliefs with Cheap, Empowering Ones

Changing your beliefs is like cleaning out a cluttered closet. You need to pull everything out, take a good look at what’s there, and decide what to keep and what to let go of. Here’s a simple exercise to help you identify and replace expensive beliefs:

  1. Identify an Expensive Belief: Think about a belief you hold that makes you feel like you need to spend money to be happy, healthy, or successful. For example: “I need to buy expensive clothes to look good,” or “I need to join a gym to stay in shape.”
  2. Challenge the Belief: Ask yourself, “Is this belief really true?” “is it always true?” Look for examples in your life where this belief doesn’t hold up. Do you know someone who looks great without spending a lot of money on clothes? Or someone who stays fit without a gym membership?
  3. Find a Cheaper Belief: Replace the expensive belief with a new, more affordable one. For example: “I can look good by wearing simple, comfortable clothes that make me feel confident,” or “I can stay in shape by going for walks and doing bodyweight exercises at home.”
  4. Live It Out: Start living according to your new belief. Notice how it feels to embrace this more empowering perspective. You might find that you feel freer, more confident, and less stressed about money.
  5. Reinforce the New Belief: Write down your new belief and repeat it to yourself regularly. Surround yourself with reminders of this new perspective. Share it with friends or family members to help solidify your commitment to change.

Practical Steps for Creating Health and Happiness Without Breaking the Bank

Once you’ve identified and replaced limiting beliefs, it’s time to put those new beliefs into action. Here are some practical, affordable steps you can take to create health and happiness in your life:

  1. Embrace Whole Foods: Focus on nourishing your body with simple, whole foods. Shop at local farmers’ markets, buy in bulk, and choose seasonal produce to save money while eating healthily. Cook meals at home instead of relying on expensive takeout or pre-packaged foods. ( most of it is not whole food anyway)
  2. Prioritize Sleep: Quality sleep is one of the most important factors for overall health and wellbeing. Create a calming bedtime routine, limit screen time before bed, and make your sleep environment comfortable and conducive to rest.
  3. Practice Mindfulness: Incorporate mindfulness practices like meditation, deep breathing, or yoga into your daily routine. These practices can help reduce stress and improve mental clarity, and they can be done for free using online resources or apps.
  4. Stay Active: Find enjoyable ways to move your body without the need for expensive gym memberships or classes. Go for walks, bike rides, or hikes in nature. Join a local community group or engage in outdoor activities with friends or family.
  5. Cultivate Gratitude: Focus on what you have rather than what you lack. Keeping a gratitude journal can help shift your perspective and foster a positive mindset, making it easier to attract happiness and health into your life.
  6. Connect with Others: Build meaningful connections with friends and family. Engage in activities together, share experiences, and support one another in your health and wellbeing journeys. Community and connection can enhance your sense of happiness and fulfillment.

In a world that often equates happiness and health with spending money, it’s essential to recognize the power of your beliefs. By challenging the expensive beliefs that hold you back and replacing them with empowering, affordable ones, you can transform your life without breaking the bank.

Remember, the path to health and happiness is not found in the products you buy but in the beliefs you hold and the choices you make every day. Embrace the power of belief, take small, consistent steps toward your goals, and watch as your life begins to shift in amazing ways.

When you realize that you can create a happier, healthier life without the need for expensive products, you’ll not only save money—you’ll also free yourself from the burden of unrealistic expectations. In doing so, you’ll discover the true essence of wellbeing lies in your mindset and the simple, affordable habits you cultivate.

So, what will you believe today?
