Embrace Positive Change: Winning Attitudes During Menopause Weight

Menopause - A new Chapter

I was dreading my Menopause years before my blood test showed that I was in menopause. Everyone around me warned me from the worse period of my life. I remember gatherings with girlfriends sharing horror stories about this period. I went to check what is approaching and found a very scary picture of the future:  hot flashes, vaginal dryness, urine leaks, night sweats, irregular period , sleep problems, slow metabolism , thinning of hair ,mood changes, dry skin, loss of breast fullness, decreased libido and… drum roles… weight gain.
I think I was in panic for a while. My period turned irregular ( which I was very happy about) and nothing, absolutely nothing happened. I remember checking my breast in the mirror ( yep, it looks exactly like it looked when I gave birth to my first daughter), my hair was thin since I was 16 and no, it is not thinning. I never experienced hot flashes, no urine leaks, no night sweats, I sleep well and wake up refreshed. My skin looks awesome. Libido is great and whenever I was upset, I told myself, it must be it but then it disappeared after a good night sleep or meditation, so I wasn’t sure about it. For a long time, I thought I was just lucky. ( and No, my mum didn’t have that luck nor any of my sisters).

One of the doctors I met who was expert in aging and hormones, said to me that I must be doing many things right if the only menopausal symptoms I had, was weight gain, after he checked my blood and told me that I was definitely menopausal.
For a long time, I thought I was just lucky, but this doctor convinced me I wasn’t simply lucky but carried the right attitude towards it.
If I can do it, you can do it too!

Menopause is a significant transition that can redefine a woman’s life, and it’s important to recognize its impacts.

Menopause is a transformative time in a woman’s life, marked by various physical and emotional changes. Instead of dwelling on these challenges and complaining about them, I believe it’s time to adopt a proactive mindset. I personally like the  “just do it” philosophy. This approach emphasizes taking action and focusing on solutions rather than getting bogged down by the problems themselves.
If you want to take control over your health, your weight, your relationships, your productivity, or any other aspect of your life, it’s crucial to shift away from complaining, embrace responsibility, and take charge of creating positive change in our lives.

The Futility of Complaining

Complaining about weight gain and health issues during menopause is understandable but counterproductive. It doesn’t solve anything; instead, it keeps us trapped in a cycle of negativity and inaction. When we complain, we give away control over our circumstances, blaming  external factors beyond our influence. The truth is we have more power than we realize to shape our health outcomes, even during menopause.

The Power of the “Just Do It” Philosophy

Imagine a different approach—one where complaints are replaced with action. The “just do it” philosophy is about taking ownership of our health and committing to meaningful changes. It means setting realistic goals, such as incorporating regular movement exercises , making healthier food choices, and managing stress effectively. These actions may seem small, but they accumulate to make a significant impact on our wellbeing over time.

Investing in Your Health and Wellbeing

If you find yourself complaining about your weight or health during menopause, consider this: complaining won’t make the extra kilos disappear or improve your energy levels. Instead, it reinforces a victim mentality where external factors control your outcomes. On the other hand, investing in your health involves taking proactive steps to improve your diet, engage in regular physical activity, and seek professional advice when needed. It’s about recognizing that your choices today shape your health tomorrow.

Taking Responsibility for Change

At the core of the “just do it” philosophy is responsibility. It’s about acknowledging that you are the master of your life and health. Menopause brings changes, but it doesn’t define your destiny. You have the power to choose how you respond to these changes. By accepting responsibility, you empower yourself to make positive choices that support your wellbeing. Menopause is not a sentence it is an option, and you can do many things to skip the symptoms.

Practical Steps for Positive Change

  1. Set Realistic Goals: Start with small, achievable goals like walking for 30 minutes a day, dancing, or adding more vegetables to your meals.
  2. Stay Consistent: Consistency is key to success. Make your health a priority by scheduling meditation sessions and meal planning.
  3. Seek Support: Surround yourself with people who encourage your healthy habits and seek professional guidance if needed.
  4. Focus on Solutions: Instead of fixating on the challenges of menopause, channel your energy into finding solutions. Whether it’s trying a new workout routine or exploring stress-reduction techniques like yoga or meditation, there are numerous ways to support your health during this transition.

    A New Chapter

Menopause is a chapter of change. I consider it an opportunity. It doesn’t have to be defined by complaints and limitations. By embracing the “just do it” philosophy and taking responsibility for your health, you can navigate this phase with strength and resilience. Remember, every positive choice you make contributes to a healthier, happier you. So, if you’re ready to invest in your health and wellbeing, stop complaining and start taking action today. Your future self will thank you for it.
