What Does It Mean To Be Healthy?

healthy

Recently, someone asked me what it means to be healthy.

For me, being healthy is all about feeling energetic, vibrant, joyful, and eager to jump out of bed each morning. It means being pain-free, positive, and ready to embrace whatever the day brings.

But what does being healthy mean to you? Is it about losing weight or overcoming fatigue? Is it about reversing medical conditions, managing high blood pressure, heart disease, or diabetes? Or is it about ultimately eliminating the need for medications?

Discovering the Root Cause

As a doctor for nearly 30 years, with 23 of those years as a GP, I prided myself on caring for my patients and doing the right thing. However, it wasn’t until I faced my own health challenges that I realized the traditional medical approach wasn’t working for my patients or me. I was part of the illness industry—diagnosing conditions and treating them with medications, rather than reversing or preventing them. This realization led me to root cause medicine, which focuses on wellness through nutrition and lifestyle changes.

Transition to the Wellness Industry

For the past three years, I have embraced the wellness industry, which has brought more progress for myself and my patients than the previous 27 years combined. This shift has been challenging but rewarding, as it involves believing in the significant role of nutrition and lifestyle in health. Most illnesses can be managed through these changes, and that’s the message I now share with my patients.

The Power of Education

When I first started discussing nutrition and lifestyle with my patients, I was passionate about teaching them the science behind their health. I believed that understanding the body’s processes was crucial for making informed decisions. While my patients were initially inspired and motivated, many struggled to maintain their progress over time. It became clear that knowledge alone wasn’t enough; they needed practical tools to implement these changes in their daily lives.

Finding Peace with Food

In our ‘Find Peace with Food’ 3-Day Challenge, we emphasized that struggling with food isn’t your fault. The environment is stacked against us—from the food industry’s marketing strategies to misleading nutrition labels and a lack of nutritional knowledge among doctors. This makes it incredibly challenging to stay on a wellness journey. However, for those in the Whole Food Revolution community, we recognize the importance of taking control of our health.

Making a Commitment to Health

When considering what being healthy means to you, it’s important to recognize that the illness industry doesn’t reverse conditions—it often leads to more illnesses and medications. Instead, we must focus on learning about our bodies and implementing that knowledge into our daily lives. This involves developing habits, addressing our mindsets, and understanding the deep connection between mind and body.

The Role of Mindset

Addressing beliefs and subconscious patterns around food is crucial. Many of our eating habits are rooted in childhood, and stress often triggers unhealthy behaviors. Learning to manage stress effectively is a key component of a successful wellness journey. Without addressing these psychological aspects, achieving and maintaining health becomes significantly more challenging.

The Whole Food Revolution Team

Deb, Ronit, and I came together with a shared realization that we could provide a comprehensive solution by combining our expertise in science, lifestyle, and mindset. Our Holistic Health Revolution program, is designed to offer this unique blend. It’s a four-month program that covers the science of health, practical implementation, and mindset shifts necessary for sustainable change.

The Urgency of Action

Health issues like insulin resistance, which is prevalent among middle-aged individuals, can lead to chronic diseases such as Alzheimer’s, heart disease, and diabetes. Studies have shown that even young women with polycystic ovarian syndrome, a condition of insulin resistance, exhibit brain changes similar to those with Alzheimer’s. This highlights the importance of addressing these issues early.

Overcoming Barriers

Common barriers to health include time and money. However, practical solutions exist to make wellness simple and accessible. Consider the money spent on ineffective weight loss attempts—investing in a holistic program can provide lasting benefits. Prioritizing health, despite our busy lives, is essential for long-term wellbeing.

The Importance of Comprehensive Health

A holistic approach that combines scientific knowledge, practical implementation, and mindset shifts is essential for true health. This comprehensive strategy is what sets our Holistic Health Revolution program apart. We believe in its potential to transform lives and encourage everyone to consider making this commitment.
