How Processed Food and Media Hijack Your Body and Mind

Let’s talk about what you’re consuming.
And no, I don’t just mean what’s going into your mouth—I mean what’s going into your mind too. Because here’s the truth: processed food and processed information are basically the same poison wrapped in different packaging.

We’re consuming all day long. Food, yes. But also, words, images, sounds, and stories. Every scroll on your phone is a bite of something. Every headline is a snack. Every movie, every clickbait video, every social media post—we’re shovelling it all in. Non-stop. No filters!

Food and Information: The Same Dirty Game
The stuff they call food in supermarkets is so far from nature. it’s basically science fiction. Neon-coloured snacks, meat that never rots, bread that survives a nuclear blast. Processed food is designed in labs to hijack your brain. It’s all designed to manipulate your mind into craving more. Salt, sugar, dies, colours, and chemicals you can’t pronounce—all precision-engineered to hit your dopamine centres like a slot machine. It has zero nutrients. But man, is it irresistible.

Processed information? Same game.
And what about the news? The shows? The endless stream of drama? They’re doing the exact same thing. It’s flashy, fast, fear filled. Algorithms designed to keep you scrolling, clicking, watching, doubting. Zero mental nutrients and yeah—you want more. Even though it makes you anxious, drained, and low-key miserable. Ultra processed information is  brilliantly engineered to playing your emotions like a piano—fear, outrage, gossip, fake connection. The equivalent of eating 17 marshmallows and calling it dinner.

The Manipulation Game
Processed food and processed media are made the same way – engineered to hijack your attention, your cravings, your biology. They look good, taste good, feel exciting, even comforting, but underneath? There’s no nutrient in them. Nothing that fuels you, grows you, sustains you. It’s all just stuff that fills you up while making you hungrier. It’s not even food or info anymore – it’s product.

In both cases: You’re being played.

Someone out there (let’s be real—entire industries) is spending big bucks to figure out how to get into your head or your stomach—or ideally, both. Not because they care about your wellbeing. But because they want your time, attention, and cash. I wrote before about it, to make you a wallet.

Let’s Call It What It Is: Manipulation

Processed food and processed media are not neutral. They are manipulated. They are engineered. They are marketed as something fun, tasty, entertaining, and even… necessary. But here’s the punchline: We’re paying people to mess with our body and mind.

Think about it.
You buy chips and cola. It messes with your insulin, your gut, your mood.
You binge on movie series or doom scroll news. It messes with your focus, your sleep, your peace of mind.
You pay for it. Whether it is with your money or your livelihood , your health and wellbeing. You pay literally with your sweat tear and blood  and the worse bit; they have made you want to do it that you pay for it willingly.

You paid to consume something that makes you… ill in body and in mind.
You paid for the “right” to consume something that has no nutrients whatsoever and then complain that you are in aches, you can’t think,  your muscles are not working, you lack energy and can’t sleep, you are overweight or depressed, angry, and unhappy… It is not your upbringings, not your circumstances, not your genes, it  is you!
Your body knows the difference. Your gut knows. Your skin, your sleep, your moods – they all speak up when you feed them something unnatural. And your mind? It’s not just bloated with empty calories; it’s overloaded, anxious, distracted, tired. A mental junk yard of stuff you never asked for but kept swallowing anyway.

It’s wild how much of what we call “normal life” is built around consumption – and not in a good way. We’ve been taught that convenience is everything, that we don’t have time to cook, think, feel, or breathe. That someone else can do it better, faster, easier – whether it’s preparing dinner or telling us what’s happening in the world.

But what’s really happening is this: we’ve handed over the keys. Letting companies cook for us and tell us what to think. Letting them season our food and our minds with just the right blend of fear, sugar, outrage, and salt. And surprise – it’s addictive. That’s the point. They don’t want you healthy. They want you hooked.

What needs to happen for you to understand that  you are hooked? That what you are apaying for is  not real! Not real food, not real information?

Why on earth would you take your good money and give it to someone and say, “ give me something fake,  that will hurt my body and mind and shorten my life?”

Ultra-Processed Everything: The Mental & Physical Junkyard

Processed food is stripped of nutrients and puffed up with fillers, preservatives, and chemicals to keep you craving more. Processed media is stripped of truth and puffed up with shock, drama, and repetition to keep you scrolling. Both are noisy, artificial, and leave you emptier than before.

And then you find yourself tired all the time. Not just tired like “I need a nap.” I mean soul tired. Body tired. Brain tired. You forget what it feels like to feel good. That natural kind of good that comes from real things – food that grew from the ground, movement under the sky, conversations with actual people, silence that lets your own thoughts rise.

You start thinking that wellness is complicated. That you need a product, a plan, a professional, a prescription. But guess what? The good stuff – the really good stuff – is free.

“ Temples don’t need junk yards stacked with mental fast-food wrappers.”

Ronit Baras

Junk Yard Mind, Junk Yard Body

Your body is a temple, sure, but so is your mind. And temples don’t need junk yards stacked with mental fast-food wrappers.

We’ve been trained to pay for this crap. Literally. We spend more on food that hurts us than food that heals us. And we pay for subscriptions, ads, platforms, and screens that fill our heads with noise and confusion. We pay people to mess with our bodies and our thoughts. We’re Paying for Our Own Manipulation

Isn’t that wild? The more we pay for our poison, the more we give away our power. The more permission we hand out for others to hijack our brain chemistry and our gut health. We are  handing over our money and our power to people who profit from our disconnection. And let’s be honest—they’re not paying us to feel better. They’re paying researchers to figure out how to keep us hooked.

What’s Actually Good for You Is Free

Nature is free, silence is free, breathing. Laughing with a friend until your stomach hurts is free. Real connection. Stretching in the morning. Sunlight on your skin. Being Grateful, Kind, Making the food with good intention, Chewing food that came from the earth, not a lab. Eating in a loving supportive company… are all FREE

But we’re so distracted by shiny, packaged everything that we forget. We forget we have a choice. That is exactly what processed, and ultra processed food and information is supposed to do, make you forget you have  a choice. You have been  trapped in a fake cage of  imaginary food and information, and you just need to open your eyes and realize the bars on this imaginary prison are transparent and all you have to do is will yourself out of it. Much like Neo in the movie the Metrix. Realize  you were never really trapped. That you always, always have a choice!

Conscious and Unconscious Choice

Every person who ever felt stuck,  helpless  and used the phrase “ I had no choice” Didn’t really understand the meaning of choice.
Every time we feel that way ( victims of our own circumstances, our genes, our upbringing…) we hand out a trophy to  the engineer who processed the food or the information we consumed.

Every time you open a bag of chips or scroll through angry headlines or binge a TV show you don’t even like… that’s a choice.
Not always a conscious one, sure. But a choice, nonetheless.
We choose every second of the day. But  wish to aim for conscious choice!
I remember myself wondering about  conscious breathing when I did a Wim Hof course. We breath every second of the day but the ones we do internally are the powerful ones.
Choice is the same. What we choose consciously  is  powerful.

When we think of  conscious choice, ask yourself, if I had no limitation of money, time, circumstances, which option would I choose? And you’ll find the imaginary cage bars around your mind. The ones you need to break, with your mind.

Most of us are not really conscious when we choose to  shove a muffin or a fear-pumped headline down our throat. We click. We unwrap. We bite. We binge. We scroll. We choose. Choice based on fear is never a good choice. I would dare saying it is not a choice at all!
Many years ago, when I had to choose a slogan for my business , Be Happy in LIFE, I choose “Happiness is a choice” exactly for that reason. Exactly the same way happiness is a choice, so is health.

And here’s the great news: If you can choose to consume junk, you can choose to consume nutrients for  your body and… your mind.

The diet

Just like switching to a low-carb, whole-food diet resets your body—it clears the fog, stabilizes your mood, gives your organs a break—you can do the same for your mind. You go on a diet.

The word diet has been hijacked, too. Don’t you feel your body cringes when you hear the word “diet.” I know I did, for long time, until I realized I had a very distorted definition of what diet was.

Rejecting all ultra processed definitions of diet, I defined mine. “ A diet is an  environment where I control what I consume in my body and mind that I believe will bring my body and mind  to harmony and balance”
You see, for me it is no longer about food, it about freedom. My freedom to be happy and healthy. For me A diet isn’t a punishment—it’s a choice to stop being manipulated.
A diet is saying, “No thanks” to the stuff designed to hook you and harm you.
It’s reclaiming your power. It is resuming control over your body and mind.

Here’s a wild thought: what if your diet isn’t just what you eat, but also what you watch, what you read, what you scroll, what you listen to? What if the “cleanse” you need isn’t just green juice, but a full system reboot from all the crap you’ve been fed mentally and physically?

Think of it as a diet for your brain. A break from the junk. A cleanse. Stop feeding your mind garbage and see how different you feel. Less anxious. Less reactive. More peaceful. Just like your body gets calm when the insulin rollercoaster ends, your mind chills when it’s not overloaded with constant drama.

Awareness Is the Nutrient We Need Most

That’s the magic ingredient we all need to have. Every healthy choice starts with awareness. You notice how your body feels after having a pasta  or pizza and how your brain feels after a social media binge or an hour on the news. You start noticing the patterns – the way your cravings aren’t just for food, but for distraction, stimulation, comfort.

And then you choose. That’s the most important part. Nobody’s forcing you. You walk into the shop, you scroll the feed, you make the click, you open the packet. That’s the power – you’re choosing it. But the real power lies in your ability to choose not to. You can choose better. You can choose food that fuels your body and info that supports your mind. You can choose quiet. You can choose real.

Whole food isn’t just a trendy label. It’s the opposite of manipulation. It’s food that’s still itself – not restructured, repackaged, and rebranded into something  that is alien to the body. Whole food gives your body what it actually needs. And when you eat like that, your body starts working with you again. It finds its rhythm, its energy, its joy.

Same with your mind. Stop flooding it with content and start giving it space. Read a book that makes you learn and feel something. Listen to music that moves you. Go outside. Look at the sky. Breathe like you mean it. It doesn’t sound like much, but it’s everything and… it costs less than therapist,  doctors  and medications.
I’m not talking about perfection. You don’t need to delete the internet and live on broccoli. This is about appreciating your body and mind and treating it like a temple. It is as simple as asking yourself .Is this feeding me, or draining me?

Tips to breaking the cycle and  Reclaiming Your Health

Here are some real-world, down-to-earth tips to help you stop being manipulated—and start consuming nutrients for body and mind:

  1. Look at the Label

If your food has ingredients you can’t pronounce—or more than 5 ingredients total—it’s probably not real food.
Same with media. If the headline is shouting or makes you anxious… skip it.

  1. Think in terms of nutrient as high value

Everything you put in your mouth and mind is either fuelling you or draining you. Learn your body and focus on fuelling. Fear, anger, sadness, disappointment, frustration… are not nutrient. They drain you.
Joy, hope, high energy, smiles, confident  has high value and feeds you.
Stop counting calories, fat  and start thinking nutrients and value.

  1. Build a Body & Mind Pantry

Fill your fridge with real food, colourful veggies, eggs, nuts, fish, meat.
Fill your mind with books, music, happy people,  creativity, nature, calm, nature.. Use your pantry to Cook simple meals. Real food, real fats, real flavour. You don’t need a degree  or be a doctor– just start with a veggie, a protein, and something fermented.
In terms of mind pantry, have a system in place that feeds you when you are emotionally “ Hungry.”

  1. Unplug and Digest

You wouldn’t eat 24 hours a day. So why consume content nonstop?
Take breaks. Let your mind digest. Go offline for a bit. Just breathe. Have a media curfew. No screens for two hours before bed.

Let your brain detox. The same way we suggest all our clients to go though fasting, we highly recommend you go thorough media fasting. ( it resets your dopamine receptor and will make you enjoy things even more after) . Once a weak Mental fast for 24 hours will do magic.
When you are using nature to unplug, avoid distracting yourself with headphones, Wi-Fi, and messages.
Unfollow on social media. In fact, Unfollow anything that feels like junk. If it makes you feel bad, small, angry, or hungry when you’re not—ditch it.

Cut down notification, they are simply sugar hits. Stop the noises of messages, unsubscribe on email lists, don’t turn on the TV to listen to the news ( Nothing new about it anyway).

  1. Curate Your Circle

Surround yourself with people who feed you confidence, love, kindness. People. Who talk about ideas, growth, health. Avoid people who only talk about, drama, gossip or pump out fear. Cleaning your environment from toxic people is essential. You “consume” their energy as well.

  1. Breathe, Move, Laugh

These are the ultimate nutrients for your nervous system. They cost nothing and change everything.
Watch comedy. Laugh with all your heart. It is medicine. Call a friend who makes you giggle. Laughing is better than green juice.
If you notice your body is draining due to fear, know it is time to recharge. I have a list of things to do when I feel down. I call them chargers. : Call someone I love, go to my succulents in my garden,  write…
Find your chargers!

  1. Ask Yourself: Who Profits From This?

Every time you consume something—food or info—ask: Who’s profiting from me eating/watching/scrolling this?
If it’s not you, it might not be worth it. The FREE ones are usually the best.

  1. Pause before you consume. Whether it’s a snack or a scroll, take a breath. Ask: is this nourishing me?
It is amazing how much you learn about yourself, if you do it for 3 days only.
  2. Learn to breath, consciously! Breathing internally resets the body and help it reach balance and harmony. I have learned so many of the techniques and my conclusion is that they all work. If your mind is searching for the right “ technique” you are far away from finding it.
  3. Don’t believe everything you hear, not even from your own mind
When exposed to a thought, belief, a feeling, or information that makes you feel bad: That you are small, helpless, unappreciated, unworthy, not enough, in anyway, … don’t believe it blindly.
Byron Katie in her “work” presented in the book “Loving what is?” suggest asking the question, “ is it true?” “is it absolutely the truth?” .
Remind yourself, Truth does not exist. We call truth the thing we strongly believe in. So, make a conscious choice to believe in your body and mind’s superior ability to… heal. That’s the only truth that really exists.

Whole food, Whole thought, Whole living

In simple world ,  You’re Not Broken—You’re Just Overfed (With Junk)

We live in a world that’s overfed and undernourished.
Our bellies are full, but our bodies are starving.
Our minds are buzzing, but our souls are tired.

You’re not broken. You’re not weak. You’re just living in a system that’s designed to make you dependent, tired, and distracted. But you don’t have to stay there.

The healing is a self-care process. It’s just whole food. Whole thoughts. Whole living.
Eating whole food and living a low-carb life isn’t about restriction – it’s about freedom. Freedom from the chains of cravings, of blood sugar crashes, of feeling foggy and sluggish. And when you apply that same logic to your mind – consuming only what’s real, nutrient-dense, and kind – you start to feel whole again.

The best part. You can choose! You’re not stuck. You’re not doomed. You’re just one decision away from nutrients instead of noise.

So next time you’re about to bite into something… or click on something…
Ask yourself:
Is this feeding me, or is it fooling me?

Choose what you consume. Every bite. Every thought. It’s your body. It’s your mind. They belong to you – not the snack aisle, not the algorithm.

In the end, it’s about taking back the reins. No one else is going to protect your body and your mind from the crap we’re sold every day. You deserve better. Your body and mind? They’re counting on you.
