The festive season is upon us, ‘‘tis the season to be merry’ with parties, celebrations and lots of merry making, usually involving a good amount of ALCOHOL!
I came across a wonderful talk by Dr. Andrew Huberman, a professor of neurobiology and ophthalmology at Stanford School of Medicine, founder of the Huberman Lab, on ALCOHOL and it’s effects on the body.

It’s a bit long winded, so I’m going to summarize the main points over the next week.
ALCOHOL is both water and fat soluble
ALCOHOL can pass into all the cells and tissues of the body, easily.
This explains it’s damaging effects
ETHANOL is the alcohol that is fit for human consumption
ETHANOL is broken down in the liver to a poison (Acetyl Aldehyde), which kills cells indiscriminately
This is converted to a fuel (Acetate) which can be used for immediate energy but cannot be stored
If the liver cannot convert the POISON into the FUEL fast enough, it accumulates in the cells causing damage
